Sevenoaks Baillie Scott House

New Contemporary Extension to Listed Baillie Scott House
The house was originally designed by M. H. Baillie Scott, an architect associated with the Arts & Craft Movement, and so is grade II listed. So our design needed to add to the existing house without harming the important heritage and setting.
Our solution was to create a completely new entrance located within a glazed section linking new and old. We carefully integrated the new link into the existing building by demolishing some later work that did not contribute to the heritage value.
The new annexe uses a traditional pitched roof that is the same as the main house. Internally we have used that pitch to create large volumes in the Family spaces and storage in the roof. The Family Room features large sliding doors to the garden that are protected from the south sun by a sliding louvered shutter system.
